Spent 41 years working for The New York Times: 4 years on Sunday Book Review; 31 years as Daily Book Reviewer; 6 years as Chief Obit Writer. Am now retired, still writing advance obits. Have published three books: "Me and DiMaggio" (Simon & Schuster, 1986), a baseball memoir, and two novels, "A Crooked Man" (S&S, 1995), and "The Mad Cook of Pymatuning" (S&S, 2005). Now writing a memoir about that year in BERLIN, as yet untitled.
